  • Oleksandr Turchynov was named as the interim President of Ukraine after Viktor Yanukovych was impeached as the President by the Parliament.
  • Matteo Renzi was sworn as Italy’s Prime Minister at the Presidential palace.
  • Ibrahim Mahlab was sworn in as new Egypt Prime Minister on 25 February 2014.

National

  • A committee was constituted under the chairmanship of M.P. Bezbaruah on 21 February 2014. The committee was constituted to look into the various kinds of concerns of the persons hailing from the North Eastern States. 
  • Cheteshwar Pujara has been appointed as the brand ambassador of the Gujarat State Election Commission.
  • Union Government and ADB signed an agreement for a 300 million US dollar loan to improve road connectivity along key corridors in Chhattisgarh.
  • Navy Chief Admiral DK Joshi resigned taking moral responsibility of the accident on INS Sindhuratna.
  • Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Gulam Nabi Azad inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
  • Government of India (Union Home Ministry) on 27 February 2014 constituted one-man expert committee to study and examine the demand of a separate Bodoland state headed by former Union Home Secretary G K Pillai

  • The G-20 Meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors was held at Sydney, Australia on 22 February 2014 to 23 February 2014.
  • FNCCI and CII agreed to organise Nepal-India Economic Summit every year alternatively in the two countries. The decision was made in Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • Coca-Cola announced to set up its Accelerator Programme TARGET in India.

  • Archana Bhargava, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Kolkata-based United Bank of India (UBI)
  • Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB) signed Pact with New India Assurance Company
  • Bimal Jalan Committee on New Bank Licenses submitted its report to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 25 February 2014.

Sports

  • Delhi Waveriders emerged as champions of Hockey India League after defeating Jaypee Punjab Warriors at Astroturf Hocket Stadium in Ranchi.
  • Somdev Devvarman won his third ATP Challenge Tennis title after defeating top seed Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-3, 6-1 in the final in New Delhi.
  • Sourav Kothari beat Alok Kumar to won the National billiard Championships which held in Lucknow

Deaths

  • Eminent painter, Prokash Karmakar died following age-related illness at the age of 81. He was the winner of Lalit Kala Akademi National Award.

Awards

  • Israeli President Shimon Peres awarded Angela Merkel with Israel’s highest civilian honour Medal of Distinction in Jerusalem.
  • Madan Babu, Indian scientist won the Protein Society’s Protein Science Young Investigator Award for 2014 at Cambridge
  • Gandhian environmentalist and social activist, Chandi Prasad Bhatt was selected for the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2013.

  • Dinesh Sarraf appointed as next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)

  • The book titled Water, Peace and War – Confronting the Global Water Crisis is written by Brahma Chellaney.
  • The largest 130-MW Solar Power Plant of India was launched at Bhagwanpur in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh.
  • The book Ambedkar Awakening India’s Social Conscience  was authored by Dr. Narendra Jadhav. Narendra Jadhav is a member of Planning Commission.
  • National Science Day was observed across India on 28 February 2014 to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist CV Raman.
  • Salman Khan launched a music album entitled Raunaq composed by AR Rahman and written by Kapil Sibal.
